Invitations
There are so many choices when looking for birthday invitations. To narrow it down, first choose your party theme. Most party themed invitations can be found at places such as amazon or etsy. We love these ones. Remember to put a start and finish time on your invitations so you are able to keep the party between your child’s nap times.

Capture the moments
Make sure to take photos of everything! Your child will not remember their first birthday party but when they are older you will be able to show them all the fun they had at their party. It will be hard for you to host the party and take photos so bring in some helpers. Ask a family member or friend if they would play photographer for the day. This job would be perfect for any teens at the party.
Keep the Party short
Little ones can get overwhelmed and tired pretty easily so try to plan your party around your child’s nap times. A party of about 1 ½ hours is perfect for this age. You don’t want the Birthday child to get tired and grumpy. You also don’t want them to sleep through their own party so you must take that into consideration where planning the time of the party as well.
Ask for help
Looking after the birthday child and hosting the party can be tough at times so ask a trusted friend or family member for some help on the day. They will be more than happy to help pitch in and will free you up to enjoy this special day.
A Smash Cake
It seems a rite of passage these days to have a smash cake at a first birthday party. They are fun to do and will give you the most adorable Instagram worthy photos to treasure. If you are not sure what a smash cake is, it is a small cake made just for the birthday boy or girl. Place the cake in front of your one year old and let them loose. Chances are they will dig their hands into the cake or ‘smash’ their whole face into the cake. Either way these photos will be priceless
Party Food
It is a great idea to serve party food which can be prepared ahead of time. While it is nice to have hot food, you don’t want to be spending too much of your party time in the kitchen so here are some food ideas that can be made before the party.
Set up a food station with small bite sized party food: You can include foods like small sandwiches, fruit trays or fruit kebabs, individual puddings, sausage rolls, donuts, candy, chips, chocolates, jelly and ice-cream.
Grazing tables are really trendy at the moment, they are easy and fun. Use cookie cutters to make fun shaped food as kids love the novelty of these.
Charcuterie Boards are also another great and easy way to display finger food for your party, you can do a savory board with meats and cheeses or the new trend is candy Charcuterie boards
