Backyard teenage party with friends by the pool

One of the best things about backyard parties is that they can be as big or small as you want them to be. If you’ve got a large backyard, invite all of your teenager’s friends and have a huge bash! If you’ve got a smaller backyard, invite a few close friends and have an intimate gathering. No matter what size backyard you have, we’ve got some great ideas to make it the perfect party spot for your teenager and their friends.

Choose a Theme

For starters, you’ll need to decide on a theme. Once you’ve got a theme in mind, everything else will fall into place. Will it be a pool party? A beach party? A carnival-themed party? Get your teenager’s input and make sure they’re on board with the theme before you start planning and narrow your selections down to parties that will fit with your own backyard

Games and Activities

Once you’ve got a theme, it’s time to start thinking about games and activities. If you’re throwing pool party, set up a slip ‘n slide or sprinklers for hours of water-filled fun. For a beach party, set up a volleyball net or build a sandcastle. If you’re going with a carnival theme, set up some fun games like a bean bag toss or ring toss. No matter what theme you choose, there are endless possibilities for games and activities that will keep your teenager and their friends entertained all afternoon long.

Food and Drinks

Last but not least, you’ll need to think about food and drinks. If you’re having a pool party, make sure to have plenty of sunscreen and refreshing drinks on hand. For a beach party, pack some healthy snacks and sandwiches. And if you’re going with a carnival theme, don’t forget the cotton candy and popcorn! No matter what type of party you’re throwing, food and drinks are essential.

Here are some of our Favorite Backyard Party Themes and Ideas for Teens

Glow Party

If you’re looking for a fun and unique party idea, look no further than a backyard glow party! With these simple steps, you can throw an amazing and affordable party that will light up the night.

Glow sticks and glow bracelets

Start with your decorations: To get maximum effect consider using a black light to really make those neon colors pop. There are glow in the dark balloons, streamers, birthday banners and signs which will look amazing. You can even use glow sticks to create fun and festive decorations.

Think about your party food. You can use glow in the dark plates and cups or you can buy white ones and decorate with neon stickers. For a fun twist, you can wrap a glow stick around your cup and it will make your drink liquid glow. Any party food will work well with this party theme and you can liven it up with some glow in the dark food coloring. Try making your usual cupcakes but add the neon food coloring to your white frosting for a fun glow. Tonic water will also glow under a black light because it contain a little bit of Quinine, which is a naturally occurring substance. Try adding a little tonic water to your lemonade and serve these drinks in a clear plastic cup.

Outdoor Movie Party

What’s better than a movie party? A backyard movie party! With these simple tips, you can turn your backyard into the ultimate outdoor cinema.

Teenage Movie Party

First, choose a movie that everyone will enjoy. It’s important to pick a film that is appropriate for your audience. You don’t want to end up with a bunch of bored teens

Next, you’ll need to set up a screen and projector. You can buy a portable screen or make your own using a white bedsheet. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can even build a makeshift movie theater using cardboard boxes! Once your screen is set up, it’s time to choose a projector. There are a variety of projectors on the market, so do some research to find one that will fit your needs.

Party Preparation. Once you’ve got your screen and projector set up, it’s time to invite your guests! Make sure to send out invitations well in advance so everyone can clear their schedules.

On the day of the party, set up some chairs or blankets for your guests to sit on. Don’t forget the popcorn and candy. Try setting up a popcorn station with a variety of different popcorn toppings to try.  And if you want to take your party to the next level, set up a movie theatre stand with candy and drinks. Make sure to light up a pathway to the food so your guests can get there in the dark while the movie is on. With these simple tips, you can throw an amazing backyard movie party that your teenager and their friends will love.

Teens sitting around a bonfire roasting marshmallows

First, choose a location for your bonfire. Any open space will do but make sure to clear away any debris that could catch fire. Next, it’s time to check any local rules and regulations and build your bonfire. If you’re not sure how, there are plenty of tutorials online. Once your fire is lit, add some logs to keep it going all night.

Now it’s time to think about food and drinks. Serve up some hot snacks and drinks that will help your guests stay warm. And don’t forget the marshmallows and s’mores – teens are never too old for s’mores. Try setting up a Hot Chocolate Bar with all the delicious topping and sauces to add to your hot cocoa.

Finally, provide your guests with cozy blankets or jackets to help them stay warm.

Backyard Camping or Glamping

A backyard camping sleepover is a fun way to celebrate a birthday. Or take it up a notch with a girls backyard glamping party.
