Theme

To get started, choose a theme for your party. Will it be a spooky ghost story or a light-hearted mystery or will it be a who-dunnit or a more suspenseful thriller? Once you’ve decided on the tone of your event, start planning the details.

One of the first things you need to do is come up with a good mystery. This can be anything from a ghost story to a more traditional murder mystery. (You could purchase a Murder Mystery Game.) Once you have your story, you need to create some characters. These can be based on people you know, or they can be completely fictional. Either way, make sure each character has a distinct personality.

Story/Script

Then you will need to write a script or storyline for each guest to follow during the party. To add an extra element of fun, include some puzzles or riddles that need to be solved in order to discover the murderer’s identity. With a little advance planning, you can host an amazing Halloween Murder Mystery Party that your guests will love. Prepare your clues and puzzles ahead of time so you can focus on enjoying the party along with your guests.

Location

Choose a location that fits. A spooky mansion or dark forest would be perfect for a more sinister game, a haunted house to an abandoned graveyard – if you are game! While a brightly lit home would be better suited for a more playful mystery.

Guests

Now it’s time to invite your guests. Make sure you give them enough time to prepare, and be sure to include all the information they will need.

Decorations

Once you have your setting, you need to start decorating. This is where you can really let your imagination run wild! Some ideas for decorations include:

Make a large banner that says “Happy Halloween” and hang it up in your party space, Putting up lots of spooky decorations, such as cobwebs, skeletons, and ghosts. Crime scene tape, murder mystery party props. Hiring a costumed actor to play the role of a butler or maid and lurking around the party space to add an extra element of suspense.

Party Day

The day of the party has finally arrived! Make sure you have everything set up before your guests arrive. Once everyone is there, it’s time to start the fun! Get everyone into character, and let the games begin.
As your guests arrive, give them each a name tag with the name of their character. You can also provide them with a brief description of their character and any other information they need to know about the game. (if you have not already sent them these details) Once everyone has arrived and is in costume, it’s time to start the party!

When the party starts, give each guest a copy of the script and explain the rules of the game. Then let them get started! The goal of the game is to solve the mystery and figure out who the murderer is. To do this, they will need to follow the clues and solve the puzzles.

As the host, you should circulate around the party and make sure everyone is having a good time. You can also offer help if anyone gets stuck. At the end of the game, announce the identity of the murderer and hand out prizes to the guests who guessed correctly.

If you want to add an extra element of fun, you can have a costume contest and award prizes for the best murder mystery costume ideas. You can also give out goodie bags filled with Halloween candy and treats.
