Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk whole milk gives it that nice, creamy texture, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand
  • 1 tbsp white chocolate chips for that extra sweetness and creamy texture
  • 1 tsp sugar because we all need a little sugar in our lives, right?
  • Red food coloring just 2-3 drops for that signature red velvet color
  • Whipped cream
  • Colored sprinkles optional, but highly recommended for that extra festive touch

Instructions

  • Heat up 1 cup of milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until warm and steamy but not boiling.
  • Once the milk is steaming, toss in your white chocolate chips. Stir them in gently until they melt completely into the milk.
  • Stir in the sugar until it’s fully dissolved.
  • Add 2-3 drops of red food coloring to your mixture. Stir it well so the color spreads evenly through the milk.
  • Let your red velvet hot chocolate heat for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat. Grab your favorite mug and pour in the luscious, red goodness.
  • Dollop a nice, fluffy cloud of whipped cream on top of each mug of red velvet hot chocolate.
  • Top your whipped cream with a sprinkle of colored sprinkles.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For the Best Texture: Whole milk is your friend! It gives the drink that extra creamy texture. But if you only have skim milk or a dairy-free option, that will work too. Just know the texture might be a little thinner.
  • Make It Fancy: If you’re feeling extra fancy, you could even drizzle some chocolate syrup around the inside of the mug before pouring in the hot chocolate. Or add a few mini marshmallows on top of the whipped cream. It’s all about making it your own!
  • Leftovers: If you happen to have any leftover hot chocolate (which, honestly, might not happen with kids around), you can store it in the fridge for a day or two. Just reheat it on the stove or in the microwave and add fresh whipped cream when you’re ready to enjoy.
