How to Play the Drop Dead Dice Game
Let’s break it down step-by-step so you can jump in and teach it to your kids (or your friends) in no time.
Step 1: Decide Who Goes First
This can be random, youngest to oldest, or have everyone roll a die and the highest roll starts. It really doesn’t matter, just get someone rolling!
Step 2: Roll All Five Dice
The first player rolls all five dice.
- If the player rolls no 2s or 5s, they add up the total of all five dice and that’s their score for that roll.
- Then, they roll all five dice again and keep going!
Step 3: Watch Out for 2s and 5s (They’re the Trouble Makers!)
If any of the dice show a 2 or a 5, those dice are “dead” and can’t be rolled again. Drop them from the game for that round – they’re out.
BUT, and here’s the kicker, you don’t score any points for the roll where a 2 or 5 appears.
So yes… if you roll a 2 and a 5? Say goodbye to those dice AND that round’s points. Ouch.
Step 4: Keep Rolling Until All Your Dice Are Dead
Once you roll a 2 or 5, you remove those dice and continue with however many are left.
Keep going with your “surviving” dice until all five have dropped dead (aka you roll 2s and 5s on all remaining dice).
Once all your dice are dead, your turn is over. Add up the total score from any successful rolls you made before the 2s or 5s came knocking.
Step 5: Pass the Dice and Repeat
The next player takes a turn. Same rules: Roll all five dice, score if no 2s or 5s, drop the 2s and 5s, and keep rolling until all dice are dead.
Keep going around the table until everyone has had a turn.
Step 6: Add Up the Scores
After each player finishes, write down their score. You can play one round, or multiple rounds and tally scores over time.

Quick Example Round
Let’s say it’s your turn.
- You roll: 6, 3, 4, 2, 5 → Yikes! You rolled a 2 and 5.
- Remove the 2 and 5. No points for this roll.
- You now roll: 3, 6, 1 → Sweet! No 2s or 5s.
- You score: 3 + 6 + 1 = 10 points
- Next roll: 3, 2, 1 → Oof! A 2!
- Remove the 2. Score nothing for this roll.
- Left with 2 dice. You roll: 5, 1 → Ahh! Another 5.
- Remove the 5. Still no points.
- Last die: 2 → That die’s dead too.
Your turn is over. You scored 10 points during the only roll without 2s or 5s.
